Women In MĀḺAVIKĀGNIMITRA Of Kalidasa

Abstract

This study is intended to understand the diversity of the depictions of female characters in the play Māḻavikāgnimitra by Kalidasa.This is Kalidasa's first play that features historical characters.  The storytelling style is male-centric. But one thing that seems most interesting is the abundance and variety of female characters in this play.  It also examines the relationship of female characters to the main character in the context of the social system of the time.  It is an attempt to understand the personal and social life of women marked in Māḻavikāgnimitra.
